although caller id may be a feature of a phone - it can only work if you subscribe to it on your phone account. i'm with virgin, my phone has the capability but i do not subscribe to it as it costs a little bit more.. talk to virgin and tell them you want it and they, hoprefully, can help
we are with bt and we pay for the caller id service. worth the money.
If you are with BT they give you Caller ID access at no extra charge (but the phone must have the dispay, obviously). If you use a local loop line back to the BT exchange but use someone else to provide the local line (under local loop unbundling) BT will charge for the service. No idea what happens if you get your telephone service from a cable provider.
I`m with Virgin and caller ID costs 1.75 a month. It is available in most areas. I wouldn`t be without it. If the caller is in your phonebook it displays the name (like a mobile) or just the number if not. Some numbers come up as ` private caller` though. Just get your Mum to ring customer services at Virgin and they will set it up. They are very funny about speaking to people other than the account holder. I have to get my OH to speak to them if there is a problem because the account is in his name.
