I'm just writing to say that I managed to track down the vets where the cat in the question below was taken to, and they said that it was dead on arrival and that they are trying to track down it's owner. I am currently in floods of tears as I just cannot forget how awful it was seeing this happen. My sister has two cats and I have a house rabbit, and I would go loopy if anything terrible happened to them. Sorry for sounding like an idiot but I'm feeling really down at the minute.

Hi Barneyboo
I really do feel for you, I know how awful it is to witness something like this. Just over a year ago I knocked down my neighbours cat and I am a HUGE HUGE animal lover, it was horrendous and the image will haunt me forever, I still get upset now after this time as the poor cat didnt die til about an hour later when the vet put it to sleep. I had the owner screaming at me whilst I was just as hysterical, she then turned round and told me the cat was deaf and blind!!! So the poor thing didnt have a chance being out on the roads like that. Anyway, all I can say is I know how you feel, its awful and I just hope you feel better soon x
sSrry to hear about that, I am a huge pet lover too. A few years back I saw a cat which had just been run over seconds before, I didn't see the impact or the car involved I just saw the direct aftermath of it. We basically drove down this tree lined road where we rented a place, and in the corner of my eye I saw this cat rolling around in distress it was obvious what had happened. I shouted to my boyfriend extremely loudly 'STOP THE CAR!' i dashed out and round to see the cat by this time it had stopped moving and was laying quietly and I felt in my heart there was nothing I could do and it was the cats last moments. So I knelt down on the road next to it a stoked to slowly, and talked to it.... it passed away. Not knowing any of the locals but wanting to find the cats owner, so the poor cat is not left all alone, I went door to door, asking about the cat, I was aware that any of these people and the owner might have thought it was me that ran the cat owner but all that really mattered was the cats body to me and the owner being able to morn over the loss properly. I upset a few people who ran off to check their cat was in their house or not. It was just terrible wallking round with such bad news. In the end hours later and it had gone dark I had not found the owner but had put notes through the doors and some houses explaining what had happened and that the cat was not alone in it last minutes and had died peacefully. I lifted the cats body on to the pavement below a tree and covered the cat well with a sheet, I didn't have a garden, or outbuilding I could put the cat safe I lived in an apartment you see. Within 24hrs the cat disappeared off the street, I can only hope the owner took it and not anything or anyone else like the road sweeper/cleaner I saw on that road. Would I road sweeper take that?
I once saw a pigeon get run over by a bus and I was nearly in tears. I don't even like pigeons and I was upset. You don't sound like an idiot at all. It just shows that you care.

I know this is probably silly to ask but I just have to, you're not in the Bradford area are you Barney-boo? only one of my cats who never ever went further than 3 gardens up over the 6 yrs we've had her (from a tiny kitten) has been missing for 2 weeks. Ive phoned every local vet, the rspca, the cleansing dept, put posters up, registered with every local Lost n Found and there has been nothing. A complete mystery. It breaks my heart worrying about her and I could handle knowing she was dead easier than this worry that she's suffering in some way. Even the other cats are looking for her. Lottie is a female torte (all torte), wearing reflector collar with a bell.
It's a horrible thing to witness and even worse if it happens to one of your own. I lost my beautiful ginger boy, Dylan, like that 5 years ago now and can still remember that day. The person who knocked him over came to the door and was very distressed but Dyl had managed to get home so I already knew he was in trouble. Sadly he died later at the vets due to his injuries.
You are obviously an animal lover (not an idiot) and unfortunately you will feel very down about it.
Hi barneyboo
God, my heart goes out to you.
It must have been a terrible thing to witness but at least you had the decency to make enquiries about that poor cat. I do hope they can track the owners as they must be very distressed at the moment.
You are not an idiot as bensmum said, just a caring human being.
lizziedrippin
I hope you eventually find your cat. Fingers crossed for you. xx

Thankyou all very much for your kind answers, and I am sorry for all of you who have witnessed the same kind of things.
Oh, what..the? what a lovely person you must be. I would have done the same but the lady who had done it was already getting out of her car and it was a busy road with nowhere to stop. I'd have probably collapsed if I had got a proper look at it. Bless you!!.
No lizzydrippin, I am from Sheffield but the event took place in Newsome, Huddersfield, and the cat was ginger. I am so sorry to hear that your cat is missing. I hope that you find her soon and that she is okay. Let us know what happens.
Thank you Barneyboo and Cruella for your kind words,.
