Child Benefit is payable to everyone regardless of their income. The only criteria for who receives it is where the child spends the majority of their time. If there are 2 parents and the child spends the majority of his/her time at the father's home (weekends at mum's) - the father would receive payments. The current rates of child benefit are 16.50 for the first/only child and 11.05 for every other child thereafter per week. The lone parent rate is 17.55 as opposed to the 16.50 but this is currently being phased out and does not increase every April. No new applications for Lone Parent ChB can be made now. Bored yet...?
