Birthday Surprise
5 Answers
Hi all, it's my mums 50th birthday next year (March) and I'd really like to surprise her with a nice trip away but I'm having trouble deciding on the destination. Its a bit difficult because she's not a huge city person and she can't swim, so being on a beach resort wouldn't be much fun for her. I thought of maybe something in between the two, not too hectic but still plenty to do if you see what I mean. Does anyone have any ideas? I'd be willing to pay up to 450 per person (or more if its later in the year - need time to save!)
Thanks in advance!

It will be the end of the ski season in March so still nice and lively but not so cold. It's a large village on a beautiful lake and about 45mins drive away from Salzburg. There's good bus services, lots of excursions, activities in resort and lovely hotels and bars for the evening. The scenery is breath taking and the people wonderful. So long as you're not veggies or teetotal you'd have a lovely time. Going to Salzburg for sightseeing and shopping is great and the culture and history there is fascinating. Plus, if there is a bit of snow left on the slopes (short bus out of town) then you can get a cracking tan on any bits you're brave enough to expose!
Even if she's not a beach person I'm sure she likes wandering about in warm weather without a cardi.
Would suggest - Istanbul - my favourite city in the whole world (apart from london) - wonderful sightseeing.
Luxor in Egypt. Hot in March. Great sightseeing plus pool if you fancy a bit of relaxation.
Both of the above would fit ihto your price bracket for 1 week.
If you want any more info, post again

I would say Venice or a trip on the Orient Express. I have done both and they are fab. Tho a night on the OE is porbably more than your budget allows, but a day trip is still brill. OH and i took our mums to Brighton for the day on the OE, where they had a murder mystery. They treated everyone like royalty. The mums still talk about it!!
