Are they ripping me off
7 Answers
The company I work for have recently restructured as a result I have been offered a job lower paid than my last one. I havn't had any written confirmation about this, it is due to start in the new year. Do they have to continue with my present salary or do I have to accept the lower one?

I would quietly review and update my cv and start looking around for offers just in case.... Keep ur thoughts to urself...some office weasel will be sniffing around to let management know which way ur going to jump..... and be prepared ....recommend What Colors ur Parachute....good book in these turbulent times.... Also The Lexus and the Olive Tree.....read it and look around u....its happening everywhere....
Unless Im sadly mistaken, they have no legal right to reduce your salary unless you agree to it. I think the actual legal conditions are that they have to give you six months notice and you have to agree to it. The only other option for them is they keep you on your current salary or make you redundant. I would suggest you phone Citizens Advice, they could give you more information or put you in touch with a legal team
Where are you? Here in America this is OK to do such things. Personally I think it's nice they offered you anything rather than just cut you completely. In my city a big company is about to cut all of it's employees salaries by 21% to put the extra money towards not going bankrupt. So if they can do that, I guess your company can do this.
Of course, don't just settle. Look for another company if that is an option or else try to negotiate your prospective salary. Hopefully your boss will be willing to work with you but I agree with bluedolphin about keeping your thoughts to yourself.
