could be the exhaust manifold gasket, the engine moves slightly when the accelerator is pressed which twists the manifold if it isnt bolted down tightly.

obviously I havent heard it ,other things that can cause this type of sound is a performance air filter.
Did you get from a boy racer? As cazzz said could be a performance filter. Some think it,s a good idea to not have a filter or drill holes in the airbox next to the filter, both these make a sucking noise which they think sounds good but wrecks the engine performance.

thanks both for your replies - but i had a general service before i started driving the car so did have the filter changed. someone said its taking in too much air - but what could cause that?
is it a performance filter?

(performance filters take in a lot of air) also if they change your filter, if it is a performance one they will replace it for another performance filter...
Question Author
its not a performance filter, it was a normal one taken out which apparently didnt look that old so was a normal one put back in. i've been told it sounds as though there isnt a filter in it at all
have you checked the exhaust manifold gasket?
Question Author
no havent checked yet, will get this looked at, thanks for the advice
