Laptop standby problems
4 Answers
Hi,
I am having problems with my Laptop. Recently the standby option keeps popping up every 5mins asking me if I want to log off/ shutdown etc - this is causing my laptop to run very slowly and is very annoying. I have adjusted the power options to do nothing when the sleep/ power button is pressed so it has stopped asking me now but is still running very slowly. Does anyone know if this is a hardware or system fault and any suggestions?

look at the settings ... normally the "always on" profile stops any sort of standby
also check that advanced power management is selected in the power options
the other option is possibly the power settings in the BIOS

Hi,
I have had a fiddle with the settings and i think the problem may be with the sleep button (although I wasnt aware I had one) as through a process of elimination when i change the settings to do nothing when power button pressed and 'ask me what to do' when sleep button pressed thats when the shut down options appear whereas the cvomputer just continues to run slowly when I choose the opposite options (if that makes any sense). I will have a look at the BIOS tonight and see if any changes can be made.
Thanks
