Shall I take his surname?
30 Answers
Shall i take my fiance's surname? It's Pratt. Or shall I keep my own which is very nice indeed. I like the idea of changing my name when I get married but really not sure if I can go the rest of my life with Pratt as a surname. I've suggested that we take his Mother's maiden name as a compromise but he's not too keen. What shall I do?!

I think you should ask him to change his surname before you marry him to something more melodious sounding, like.... Bentley or Kingsley or Knight or Knightley or Patt (leave out the 'R')

My name is watson and I got married over two years ago. I have only just got round to changing my name, this is because I said I would never change it because I felt like i was changing my identity (I know it probably sounds odd but my dad always said 'we are watsons and be proud!') I now have a baby boy and want us all to have the same name. I would have gone for the double barrelled but watson-wilson sounds a bit silly!!!
He won't take my name because of a pride thing. He feels that it's not "manly" for a guy to change his surname. Also, the fact that he's been taunted about it all his life has added to his character so he's kinda proud of it. I'd like our kids (when we have some) to have the same name as both of us... it's just agreeing on that name. Does Mrs Jones-Pratt sound just as silly as Mrs Pratt?
I did not take my husband's name and he did not want mine, either.
So we both kept our own, and not had a problem with that, yet...
I turn one answer from above around:
If he really loves you, he will accept that you are not keen on being Mrs. Pratt, and if it is important to him that you have the same name, he will take yours.
If it is not important to him, you both keep yours...
Simple, isn't it?
