What about post workers with mortgages and commitments who can no longer meet them because they are cutting hours and conditions carte blanche. How would you like to go into work one day and be told - as they want to - that you'll either work a ten hour day for no extra money or not be needed at all and to go home. Somehow I doubt it.

It depends what you mean by 'get away with it'?

As advised, the postal workers, not the highest paid sector in the community by any stretch, will loose pay and pension rights for the strike days, and the whole purpose is to inconvenience the public - to draw attention to their situation which they perceive as being ignored by their management.

The rights and wrongs are a separate issue, but i don't feel that anyone is 'getting away with it'.

Its good of you to understand the in's and out's of the postal dispute.

I drive trains for a living, and on many occassions over the years we have taken industrial action because of pay, pensions, conditions of service etc.

Do we {Train Drivers} therefore ''Get away with it'' or are we standing up for what we believe is our entitlement?

Do not always believe if a spokesmen for the post office tells us that we've offered this and that but the union are digging there heels in.

It takes two to tango, and management are equally as guilty for causing the postal strike, just because they are suited and booted does not mean you side with them.

I support the postal workers too.
The strikes were announced in advance so people could be prepared and there are many other forms of communication. Important documents could be sent by courier etc.

I hate not having my post but am in full support of the postal workers. They are fighting for their employment rights and have every right to do so.

The nerve of some people, what do right they have to fair pay and decent working conditions?

You don't see the Post Office management threatening strike action. No, they knuckle down and get on with their difficult jobs of attending meetings and signing bits of paper instead of whining about pay and conditions.

The management shouldn't give in to this blackmail, give 'em an inch and they'll take a mile and before you know it they'll be able to feed their families and perhaps live comfortably.

I have absolutley no sympathy whatsoever for the postal strikers.
There are many jobs in the UK where the pay and conditions are not very good...and do they strike???? no.

If they want better pay and conditions etc...then go and get a different job and stop the bl**dy complaining. There are plenty of people out there that want to work and cant find any....let them take over..

My business is suffering as a consequence, and their aplogies for the inconvenience just isnt good enough.

Either go back to work, or get out.

Workers (and families) have a right to protect their incomes from inflation, and have a right to pension entitlements which dont leave them paupers when they retire.

Mail companies in the 21st century are about profits and earnings/per/share.

ummm Postdog, what about people who go to their workplace. Still having no post delivered, or collected from that workplace. Staff are then asked to reduce their hours because the place of employment cannot manage to pay the wages.

That is no argument. Yes, other people are on low pay and conditions. But that's only because they dont have a union to stick up for them. Do you believe they should accept a pittance? I believe every worker in the land should belong to a union. Everybody should earn a living, not just an existance. I am missing lots of parcels that are worth a lot of money but I would rather lose them than be selfish and be against the strikers. And by the way, I do not work for royal mail.
In fact, I believe the minimun wage in this country should be �10.00 an hour. A business should not be for the sole greed of the owner. If they cant afford to pay thier workers a 'modern wage' then they should not be allowed to trade! You have your own business, do you employ people? If you do, I can see why you are so selfish about people having the nerve to stand up for thier rights. Greedy People like that were against the minimum wage to start with.
Why dont we just bring back the 'slave trade', would that be acceptable to you?

Go and get a job that has a union like the London Underground. Your job will be much more secure, and you will get good pay and conditions. You will then change your mind about unions.

magicbeatle puts it in a nutshell! Businesses should not be just to make money for their owners. A business owner's so-called 'labour costs' are a workers source of income. If they can't afford to pay workers a decent wage, they can't afford to run a business, so they can get out and get a bl**dy job like the rest of us. l have worked in small, non-union places and the employees were simply exploited.

well you know the truth is i know some one who works in royal mail; he works 70 hours a week takes home nearly 500 pounds: work during the strike and works during chrismas you tell me what is a strike??? cuz I sure dont know.

Royal mail is a one big party: whippppppppppppppp open the bottles.
