I hate having them too,for the same reason as you. However, getting cervical cancer would be worse,so I'll keep on having them
well i had the ultimate humlitation of going to a gum clinic ( std ) last week very humliating walking in and all that jazz and then the test itself but these things are nessesary in life to see if we are healthy and detect things that could go wrong

no one like them though x
Horrible but necessary.
If your tense then it can make it more painful, i know it's easier said than done but try to relax and it shouldn't be as bad.
I have had lots of smears due to cancer cells and never found any of them painful. The only one I found uncomfortable was the colonoscopy, but that lasted a minute. Smear tests shoudn't be painful...have a word with your GP.
A tilted womb can sometimes cause pain during a smear test, as the neck of the uterus is hard to reach. Have a word with your nurse or doctor first, HB, because I'm sure they can put your mind at rest.
I always find them painful but it's only for about 10 minutes every 3 years so i just bear it, it's better than not having it done and finding something worse!
I would urge every woman to put up with being uncomfortable for a few minutes than having to suffer with cervical cancer for 3 years. I lost my mum over a year ago to cervical cancer and it could have been prevented if it was caught sooner(by her own g.p) and treated earlier.
Is it because you are a bloke?? Sorry I just thought the name suggested a male.
I have found that they are more painful the further away I have got from having children, if you see what I mean. The ones after post natals never seemed so bad but now they def seem worse. Have to put up with it tho.
