It may have changed but it used to be that there was only a flight in or out once a week. I stayed 2, but 1 is probably plenty. Quiet, but a couple of good bars, friendly people etc. If it hasn't changed too much then I'd recommend it - but it's a chilled place rather than a wild party place.
HI I went to Rarotonga in 1994 .. the island is lovely if you like volcanoes and windy beaches .. though the lagoons are great to snorkel in .. I didn't go walking in the hills which I regret .. I stayed at the Little Polynesian motel which is right on the beach, dodge the falling coconuts on the way to the sea .. very lovely but very windy on that side of the island ... I think the Sheraton side is ok .. not much to do there if you're not into water sports .... a much more tropical paradise is Aitutaki Island .. 50 mins by tiny plane to a gorgeous atoll with not a lot there but breathtaking views .. truly gorgeous pacific island stuff .. I will definitely go there again .. it's a toss up between there and Fiji for my birthday in 1.5 year's time !
