33. Tophat
38 Bearskin
40 Laurel Leaves
50 Panama

Trying to think of some more
Question Author
Hi fishsticks.

I thought top hat for 33, but isn't it two words, or at least top-hat?

38 Bearskin is good!

Can you explain the reasoning for 40 laurel leaves?

50 Panama is a possible, but isn't it made of palm leaves rather than straw?
17 boater?
9 Mantilla?
43 Dolly Varden
35 Mitre
5 Sombrero
17 Boater
Question Author
Thanks both.

What were your thoughts for 9 mantilla, fishsticks?

43, 35 and 5 are good.

17 boater might fit, but I'm not sure about the "difficult to bear" bit of the clue.
Question Author
I've sussed 9 Mantilla - it's backwards in the clue!
Question Author
Also found some Panama "straw" hats...!
Hi
Instead of Top Hat maybe Topper.
The Panama Hat is made from a straw like material.
Laurel Wreath not Leaves. Laurel is the other one in Laurel and Hardy. Winners used to wear a laurel wreath
Hi

To bear anagram of boater

What do you think of sweatband for 19

Pixie Hood could be right, take the p from pastry. e from case, roman numerals for twelve XII in the middle.
Question Author
I can't see how you get to sweatband for 19 - what did you think?

For 41 I reasoned XI=eleven in PIE (pastry) to make PIXIE, but couldn't get HOOD from "twelve".
18 Forage cap?
31 Turban (anag)
Pot bellied pig.....sweat like a pig
Can't work out the 12 and hood tho

I have to give up now good luck with the rest of them.
