Air con smells fishy.
9 Answers
I have a brand new car but the air con smells almost fishy. I only picked it up yesterday and the show room is closed today.
It is working very well and powerfully and I have checked fluid levels.
Any ideas?

Which car?
If I had just got a new car I would test everything was working (For roaldoM) but apart from that with air/con you either use it or lose it, if you do not run it for at least half an hour a week the seals will dry out, fluid will leak and you will get huge repair bills !
The smell is caused by bugs in the filter and system with lack of use and dampness.
Fit a new filter and a clear smells aerosol and it should be OK, depending on the age of the car and the service history it is probably worth getting the A/C serviced.

I was once told that if you are unhappy with the smell coming from the car aircon put the setting to re circulate and spray some car interior smelly into the well on the passengers side this will be sucked into the system and pushed out through the vents. I have done it a few times and sure enough it works. . Maybe not the best idea for a brand new car but worth remembering for the future.
