i have been approached by several people who wish to buy my photographs for home decoration, how do i price my work so as to make a realistic profit.

Sounds strange, but it's how the retailers work - people who buy clothes from Next feel like they're getting better products than the clothes in Poundstretcher purely cos they pay more. I would have a good think about how much time you have taken to compose a photograph and, as a professional, give yourself an hourly rate. Then add the cost of printing and materials. Don't sell yourself short and remember that you own the copyright on the photos - the customer could be paying for the privilege of having a unique photo if you choose not to make more than the one print.
