i had a minor crash yesterday, i have decided to go through my insurance company and the girl that crashed into me is refusing to give me her insurance details! saying that she will give my details to her insurance and they will contact me!
Surely refusing to give details is illegal?
I have told her if she does not give me them I will go to the police, but she is saying that they wont do anything, surely that cant be right?
What should I do?

i thought that refusing to provide details is a criminal offence. tell her to provide them immediately and go to the police if she will not - i wouldn't trust her on this. If you end up not being able to get details, you may have to make a claim through the motor insurers bureau. do you think she may try to blame you for the crash? if you weren't at fault, it may be worth reportingthe matter anyway whilst your at it to get your side of the story on record

She is trying to blame me! i have rang the police already and asked what to do, i was told they dont get involved in minor collisions and to go through insurance.
Contact your insurers and tell them what has happened immediately unless you've already done so and tell them she is refusing to provide details - if you have her car reg or phone number, give that to them too - let them harass her for details!
Sounds like she's trying to get in there first with the insurers, if yours can't get her details, then they'll point you to the MIB. It may or may not be worth trying to report it with the police, if only to get your side of the story on record.

I spoke to the police they wouldn't get involved. Spoken to my insurance and given her name etc
that figures
well get a statement to them as to what happened and whose fault it was and let them worry about it.
i hope it works out ok
Provided that there are no injuries then by law she has to provide her name and address, the registration number of the car and the registered owner of the car iif she doesn't own it.

The requirement to give insurance details as well only applies if the other party/passengers suffer injury.
I would have thought that where people were in the vehicles at the relevant times, then the details shoudl be given on request as whiplash can set in quite some time afterwards
It is not a legal requirement give the details of insurers. I can see why too. If there is some dispute and you believe it is not your fault then to stop the inurers doing some sort of a deal between them, which they will do, then withhold the details.

I imagine she thinks the accident is your fault and does not want to her insureres to get involed in the argument and do some sort of deal, the costs of which always end up costing the punter.

I am curious as to why you are claiming from your own insurers, are you accepting blame?

Personally I have had to claim off other motorists, I don't even tell my insurers, they do not need to know unless you are making a claim. They always say you should tell them but that is only their own internal admin rules, not a legal requirement.
Inform your insurance company and give all the relevant details to them.

They will be able to get her details straight away.

i am not accepting blame but neither is she, so going to leave it for the insurers to battle it out as such.
The police wont get involved so i dont really see what else i can do.
as previously stated in the other posts leave her details with your insurance company with your statement and leave them to sort it out but tell your insurance that you feel she is wrong and dont back down even if it means you change insurance companies after its sorted out
best of luck to you
