I am staying with a friend for a while in LA (Santa Monica area) and would like to know if anyone could recommend some cheap but nice eateries in the general area?

There are loads of great restaurants in Santa Monica. Just walk along 3rd Street promenade and you will see them. If you are on a tighter budget, I would recommend Swingers on Broadway. It serves fantastic quality food, it doesn't break the bank and is open all day and night. The breakfasts are awesome! Go on their website http://www.swingersdiner.com
