escort problems again

i have a 1998 ford escort zetec and it kept cutting out and sometimes it was a sort of misfire so i turned the engine off and could hear a wirring noise coming from under the bonnet at the top juat uner the windscreen in the centre put couldnt quite tell what it was coming from,i took the fusebox out and put the hairdryer too it as it was raining really heavily at the time this started to happen but when i replaced the fusebox the car woulnt even turn over it was just dead i have the dash lights on when i turn the key but thats it and the noise under the bonnet came back and now has killed the battery help ??????????

are sure your ignition wasant sticking and it as bunt your starter motor out
