in my opinion a 5lb baby isnt that small!!!
all babies are different you cant expect every baby to weigh for example 8lb at birth!!!

A 5lb baby is considered below average birthweight gem_35.We all know 2lb babies are tiny but that is a whole different kettle of fish.Premature and small for dates are both serious .
I weighed 2lbs when I was born , and rather prem , and my son weighed 5lbs at full term but rather small for dates .
gem, I realise that 2lbs is a tiny tiny baby and must be such a terrifying experience to give birth to such a tiny early baby.

But please allow mums of 5lbers to worry about their baby being small too. Even at 5lb they can experience health problems, and its natural for every mummy to want her child to have the best start in life.

Having had a 9lb 6oz baby I see even 7lb as a little wee thing, a 2lb is a miracle baby, please dont judge me for that.
Bigmamma, I was the same 2lb and 2 months premature. I was in hospital for about 3 months, in home time for Xmas. And I went to visit my newborn 9lb cousin when I was 6 months old. and he was bigger!
Awww , snap then Chocolate Chip , what is it they say about things that come in small packages ....lol
if you took the average weight then 5lbs is a small baby
bigmamma you dont weigh much more than that now! lol
ROFL Psychick , :-D
For a full term baby 5lbs is small. Maybe people who have had a 5lb baby at full term have also had a prem baby weighing in at 2lbs. If you have a 5lb baby at full term it is still worrying as it will still be taken to special care unit and it is not normal to have a baby at 40 weeks that weigh so little, where as to have a prem baby weighing so little is.

Both my children were born at full term weighing under 6 lbs. If it was normal to have babies of low borth weights (under 5lb 10oz) then you wouldn't be monitored more closely with extra scans for subsequent babies. Your perspective has been adjusted and you sound like you are trying to outdo people in the most bizarre way.
