to change career and do something completly different?

If you have done this how successful was your choice of new career and how did you decide on what to do?

Hi Ice-Maiden, you have (IMO) the best job in the world....well except for being George Clooneys masseuse, that would be perfect for me.

What type of books will you write?

Hi badboy78 - I love my job too, but it may be time for a big change. What do you do?
I'm having trouble thinking of a career I want to do. If you have any tip's on how to decide I'd be very grateful, cos I'm totally lost!!
I was a nurse for 10 years and changed my career. I decided to leave the health sector and study full time. I am now in my third year of my history and archaeology degree and im loving every minute of it. I NEVER even thought about history before as a career choice. I had made the difficult decission to leave nursing because of health reasons, plus i dont like the way nursing is going these days as its just not the same as it used to be.
I was sitting down in my lounge wondering what on earth am i going to do in my life and had a uni prospectus in my hand. i just glanced at my book shelves and noticed that everything i read about was about history. It was as though it was this moment that i realised that i did actually LOVE hsitory!! Does that make sence????
Anyway here I am now nearly finished my degree and I dont look back at all!! Im 30 years old and i do always know that whatever happens i do have my nursing qualifications and experience to fall back on if ever i decided to. I cant see that happening somehow though!!
Haysi - I'm going to write wonderful adventures - and base some of my characters on you ABers! Not sure if it'll come under "fiction" or not - but who cares! Seriously, I've already started, but I can't devote the time to writing that I'd like.
Second career change - Fish's masseuse! x

Mistys I never thought that I would work where I do, it was a 'stop gap' for a year, but am still there after a great many years. Its a good job, challenging and interesting and the people I work with are great, but I want a bit more - so am probably not any good at giving advice re career change. :)

Taliesin238, thanks for that. It must be really good to be doing something that you love and as you say, you also have your nursing qualifications and experience should you need a fall back. And you have done all that at a young age. (yes you have ;) )

Ice-maiden - Your books about AB will be a sell out, cept no one would believe that your stories were based on fact so I would go with the fiction LOL

P.S. Fish was on GMTV recently, he has worn well ;)
I had an unitentional career change about 10 years ago. I had been a graphic artist for over 18yrs when I had my daughter....i then 'dropped out' of the field while she was small. In order to keep myself busy and use my creative urges I started making jewelery and then Papier mache bowl and mirrors. One day the owner of a craft gallery/tea room that I sold thru asked me if I would like to help manage the tea-room...I have been cooking one way or another ever since!!.....I WOULD like to go back to doing my crafty bits sometime, tho.
Hi haysi, in the future im considering training to be a plumber. Its something ive always fancied doing so mayb e when my little one is at school full time, i might just give it a whirl. Anyway, i reckoin id look look in blue dungarees!!!
Question Author
hi pastafreak I used to be quite artistic and crafty, and enjoyed making jewellery for a while. I cant cook to save my life so that would never be a career choice for me.

Hi jules, wow a plumber, if you do change careers I bet you would do really well as a lot of women would employ a female plumber. Good luck if you do. x
Thats my thinking haysi. I reckon women and the elderly would be a good market.
Question Author
OI I am not that old....erm...ok I see you said woman and the elderly LOL!
