i have a 1997 vauxhall corsa 1.2. when i am driving along in 2nd gear my car loses power and runs really rough. also the engine light appears when this happens, any ideas

If the light is yellow its the engine management light and there is a major problem. I had a '98 1.0 corsa and when this happened my e.c.u was on the way out. Sometimes it wouldn't start.
