There are approximately sixteen calories in a teaspoon of sugar. I was so intrigued by your question that I measured out 100 grams, because on the packet it says there are 400 calories per 100 grams. I then counted how many teaspoons it took to make up 400 grams. There are 25 teaspoons. I think I should get a life! Good luck with the diet!
Measuring sugar as a calorie when dieting is not the best approach in my view. Any naturopath or other enlightened being will tell you that sugar is poison to the body. In terms of dieting, its not so much the calories that create weight problems (well yes of course but for the sake of my point), its how sugar reacts in the body cells and feeds fat cells and makes losing weight harder even if you eat less food but continue to use sugar that really is the issue. Try educating yourself about sugar in the body and read some books that explain this complex process. There are some great books out there.

there is 15 calories in a tea spoon of sugar. Just in case you are doing weightwatchers, there is 0.5 pint in a heaped tea-spoon
