Theyve monitored it closely (although ive not had the 24 hour monitor on!) they did an ecg, sent me for blood tests and a scan on my kidneys but can find no cause for it at all. My gp thinks it could be a case of "white coat syndrome" but im on a low dose ACE inhibitor for it
yes it has lowered it. They started me off on diuretics but apart from making me pee a lot more (sorry! too much information!)) they didnt seem to be having much effect. My doctor asked me to monitor my BP at home every day for two weeks and take the readings in and when she looked at them the bottom number of the reading was still higher than she woud have liked and so she took me off those tablets and started me on ACE inhibitors. These do seem to be keeping it at an acceptable level and apart from making me feel slightly lightheaded for the first couple of days ive had no side effects from them. Im on Perindopril if thats of any use to you.
I was a little apprehensive to be honest when i started taking them, I think more so because once youre on BP tablets its usually a lifelong thing. Ive been taking these ones for over 12 months now and, touch wood, everything seems ok. Im sure youll be fine but if there's anything else you want to know, if i can help, I will xxx

i was told by my doc that i had high BP ,he put me on tablets and told me that was it, i would be on them for life but to come back in a month to he could fine tune the dossage, a month passed and i decided i was not happy with what he had said so booked an appointment when i knew he would not be available and went to see a different Doc, he took my BP and said it was fine and rather than just prescribe more tablets he would like me to take a BP monitor home and keep a chart showing 3 readings a day for a week, i did this and all the readings were fine, when i went back to the second Doc he took a reading and it was raised again even though 30 mins earlier at home it had been fine, he said that it was probably the stress of being in the surgery that caused it and we agreed that as long as i then took my own reading each week and went back if it went back up then that was best way to go, that was 9 years ago and its still fine unless i set foot in a surgery. im soooo glad i did not just accept what first doc said !!!
Same here mamyalynne
i kept having high blood pressure everytime I had to go and get it taken. I could feel myself getting wound up. i had one of the 24 hour monitors and an ECG 24 monitor.
I also had to give a 24 urine specimen and blood! Not sure why?
I had same problem with my BP going up when it was going off, but the doctor could still tell when they analized the results that it was still anxiety!
I think they take into consideration that this might be the case!
I'm still the same now, but the nurse knows me well enough and if it's high, she has a chat with me and does it again after I feel calm, it usually comes down!
What are we like eh?
