Can anyone recommend a good website. I am interested to find my ex husbands birth mother - he was adopted and his adoptive mother wont give us any details. I think it was a private adoption in the late 1950's.
You won't find details of adoptions on line due to their sensative nature and I think your ex husband will have to do the tracing, I doubt very much that you will be allowed access to any information. Also people adopted before 1975 are required by law to undergo councelling before being allowed access to their files.
THANK YOU so very very much for your help and advices, particularly to you In a Pickle (although I really did appreciate all of your advices).
I doubt I am going to have much luck.
My daughter has a Sickle Cell Trait and is losing her sight. Neither me, nor my ex husband have any problems with our sight and nor do my parents or rest of my family. Our Opthalmologist says her eyesight may be genetic.
It is so sad and I really wish I knew how these things may have come about. My ex husband isnt very nice to us and we split when I was pregnant (10 years ago).
His adoptive Mother says he is Greek Cypriot although I think to the Contrary. He looks Arabic and/or born to a white mother/black father. His adoptive mother tells me that BOTH his parents were Greek Cypriot. I really dont beleive this as I dont think Sickle Cell comes from Greece or Cyrpus does it ?
Katie this is so sad, couldn't you produce all your daughters' medical papers to adoption agencies and plead with them to help with your search? Most things are worth a try in this situation.
Couldn't the Ophthalmologist have a chat with your husband, maybe he could convince him to cooperate and assist you in your search? Best of luck. x
Sickle Cell Trait can be inherited from parents of mediterranean heritage but it isn't as common as from parents of African heritage. I have never heard of Sickle Cell Trait causing sight problems though. In fact it rarely causes health problems at all unlike Sickle Cell disease. Maybe your daughter's eyesight is affected because of some other condition.
IAP.......there is a world of difference between sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait as Katie says her daughter MIGHT have. To have sickle cell disease both parents have to be carriers and Katie hasn't said whether she is one herself,if she is then my apologies. But she most definitely did say sickle cell TRAIT not disease.
IAP,I respect your opinion but I fear there is maybe a little stretching of the truth/misunderstanding going on here, not from you I hasten to add. Please don't take offence as honestly none was meant.
Katie my grandson's mother is half British half Greek Cypriot and when he was born and they did a riutine test his parents were told that he had this trait and bith his parents had to have blood tests too, I can't remember the full circumstances, but I shall ask my son tomorrow what happened about it, so far in 8 years there has been no further mention of it as regards his health
