Why no meat??

Hey all, just to settle an argument...
Why don't Christians eat meat on Good Friday?
We have all avoided meat on this day as long as I can remember in my family...but why?
I should know, and I bet my Nan is turning in her grave for me asking lol!!

And although its states Good Friday as a 'fast day' it doesn't actually say why??
