My Fan Oven doesn't work!!!!!!!!!
5 Answers
I have a 6 year old Baumatic Fan Oven. The original element failed and was advised that a Zanussi element would fit amd was 1/3 of the price. Being a bit tight and having the ability to swap 1 part for another (or so I thought!!!!!) I did it myself. Now nothing apart from the clock works. I'm a BT engineer so used my testers to circuit test the whole contraption. I've disconnected from the mains and to test the various components hooked up a 6V battery where the mains should be. What's baffled me is, that with the necessary parts in place I get a 6V reading positive to negative - which I was hoping for, but when I reconnect to the mains only the clock works so I'm no further on. Can anyone help?

If you are getting 6 volts across the element it may be open circuit.
Can I suggest you check for current flow through the element as opposed to the voltage across it. This should prove if it is open circuit or not.
For safety reasons (just in case there is a short circuit somewhere) put a 5watt 100 ohm resistor in series with the element then set your multimeter to amps and connect it in series with the 6 volt battery and the element and the resistor. If there is current flow then the element must be ok and you will need to investigate further the oven mains circuit.
If the internal fan is not working when the oven is switched on then there must be a disconnection somewhere else in the ovens mains circuit and the oven heating element may not be at fault.
Best of luck

This is my question. Batman 7070 thank you for the answer, but the annoying thing is I was giving up for the day to have a ponder and see what answers came in, put the oven back together and it sprang to life. I do not know what I have done to make the bliming thing work, but I am not taking apart to find out just in case it doesn't start again. It's a - if it ain't broke...
