I expect many of us have heard that we are supposed to be more like our grandparents than our parents. Suggesting, looks, personality and ailments tend to skip a generation. I was thinking about this and I wondered if there is any scientific foundations to this or is it just a myth? Any suggestions appreciated Ricko

Personally I feel I am more like my Nan than anyone else in my family. Especially my mum. Some of the stuff Nan says, her opinions on people and situations and her sense of humour is very similar to mine.

She often says she sees a lot of her in me as well which i find quite touching : )

Yeh its the same for me but with my grandad, although i never knew him ive seen pictures and he is alot more like me than anyone else. I stand out from my close family being 6'2 as my mum sis n dad aren't all that tall. My mum says Im like my grandad was too, i think he was quite light hearted like me and ild heard the saying that you're personality tends to jump a generation so that begged my question really : -)
Well I'm turning into my Dad - a right grumpy ol' git lol - but I'm female so it's a bit worrying!

My son is colourblind which he inherited from my Dad, it always skips a generation.

i've found even though i dont see my grandma very often my personality in my opinion is very similar to hers i also have her chin but i think you get a bit of allsorts in you like a pick & mix bag of sweets some you pick from the environment and the way you live your life and the mix is your genes from that long history in your family.
sorry to disagree with you banjosister, but colour blindness definately doesn't always miss a generation. it's to do with x and y bits we inherit from our parents. if you google it, you'll find a better explanation than i can give.
