Breast lump update
7 Answers
Hi all, just got back from the hospital regarding the lump I found recently. The consultant examined me with a lady assistant present.
He seemed to have difficulties feeling the lump so I showed him a few times, at first he thought it was just a bit of muscle - it was quite embarassing!
Anyway when he did feel something he said 'don't worry its a lymph node, its quite normal - pop your clothes on!
I got dressed thinking he will then talk to me after about this lymph node but the lady came back & said don't worry, the doctor said you can go now & that was it!!!!!!
I am quite shocked because I was so nervous and yet there was no explanation of any sort regarding this, not even him saying keep an eye on it or something!
Really not sure what to think of it all!

Glad you are ok, and dont ever feel embarrased about getting checked out, there are people out there that ignore these dangers and then its too late. Get every niggle checked out thats what docs are there for. xx

Sonak,
So glad that your ordeal is over.
If there was any reasonable doubt, he would have sent you for more tests. The hospitals are very aware of problems regarding breast lumps, so generally, they do not mess about.
A friend of mine was told the same thing the week they found something wrong with me.
She was told to go home an forget about it.
That really is GREAT NEWS.
Just get on with the rest of your life now.
Everything is fine.
Thanks for updating us. xx

Hi Ladies, scuse me butting in, great news sonak, but just just a quick reminder to you ladies, Breast Cancer quite often does not come with a lump, when my wife had it, her breast just felt different to her, as if the texture of the skin had changed, I could not see or feel any difference, nor could our GP, but she sent her to breast care, and they did the tests and she had cancer, so just remember nobody knows your body better than you do, if it feels different, get it checked, never be afraid to ask for it to be checked, take care all, I will sling my hook now. xx
Great news Sonak! Your doc could maybe have been a bit clearer, his diagnosis wasn't exactly self explanatory! But I am so glad you got checked out. And thrilled that you are OK.
Ray, you are sweet...I think everyone appreciates your wise words, I certainly do. And you are right, no-one knows a body better than the person it belongs to. If the doctor is dismissive, be persistent. Your wife was lucky that the doc recognised and appreciated her knowledge of her body. Some doctors are prone to thinking they know best.

Doctors are a bit thoughless like this. I sometimes think they see so many people that they forget that a patient might want a bit more of an explanation or might need just a little chat to understand things more fully. You perhaps should have asked the lady if you could have a short chat with the doctor. He probably would have been happy to have seen you again. Not always easy to do this though, especially as this was such a traumatic experience for you.
Glad all is OK for you.

Thanks everyone for all your warm felt comments, I do feel much better after reading them!
I know I should thank God I'm fine after all that! To be honest I think I was waiting to hear something negative from the consultant thats why I was so shocked and frustrated there was no explanation for the lymph node!
I will keep an eye on it though!!!!
Thank you again all x x
