Can anyone help me please. I have a Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 petrol 97 (P) reg. Everytime I drive the car the engine management light comes on and you can't rev the car past 4 rpm because it sounds like its hitting the rev limiter. I was told that it was the airflow meter which i replaced but the problems still there. I have changed all spark plugs and leads and the idol valve. I have now been advised that it could be the coil pack could that be correct????
hi kojack
this is a common problem on the ealier ecotec engine you will find that the problem is the cam senser.when this fails the engine management light comes on and the e c u will not allow the engine to rev above approx 4000 rpm.
the car is in limp mode, this happens so that you dont do any further damage until the problem is rectified, if it is a fuel problem for example incorrect fuel mixtures can damage the catylytic convertor
