You need to insert the CD(software) that came with the player.  This should have the device drivers and 'ripping'(for converting tracks into mp3) software rewuired for the player.

If you have any more probs after doing this let us know and we'll do what we can for you.

the device did come with a cd but it said because im running xp i dont need to use it but after few failed attepts i did install it but no difference it knocks my whole comp out of wack cant right click on the device in my comp either :(
assuming you have installed nothing on the pc,like the previous poster said, put the cd that came with the player into your pc drive and it will auto-run.follow the on-screen step-by-step instructions and this will then give your pc the 'knowledge'.next time you plug your mp3 player in to add songs it shoud be recognised immediately.

i did install the driver but made no difference
Is it connected via a USB port?  Is it detected by your PC?  Also, is it a small Mb player(128, 256, 512 etc) or is it a 'jukebox' type with upwards of 4Gb hard drive?
Question Author
it is  128MB my computer does detect it but it takes about 10 mins for it to show up in my computer then when i try and do anything with it it freezes my computer and then after about 4 mins it asks for me to insert a disc in drive f yes it does get connected through usb

Without sounding like I'm trying to teach you to suck eggs is the unit switched ON when you have it connected to the USB? Sometimes it can be something that simple. Does it show as an extra drive in the My Computer window?  If so you need to drag and drop the files in(provided you have converted them to mp3).

If you have any more probs tell us the make and model and we'll try and sort something out via a Google search.
