There is a type of overcoat called an 'Inverness'. However, that is the name of a city in Scotland rather than England. (I wonder whether you are one of our American members, as they often think England somehow encompasses Scotland. It doesn't.)

Is this question from a British or a North American quiz, Wineglass?

The site recommended by Boots above is not British...its prices are in dollars and it sells tire (with an 'i') repair kits etc. As there are cities called Newcastle in the USA, Canada and Australia as well as in Britain, I wonder whether the coat they sell is named after their very own city rather than an English one.

I have to say I've never heard the words 'Newcastle overcoat' spoken in this country nor seen them in print. I certainly have heard of an Inverness one, though. It's the kind of coat Sherlock Holmes wore - at least in films - with a sort of removable shoulder-cape. It went very well with a deerstalker hat!

However, as already pointed out, Inverness isn't an English city either; hence my opening query above.
