Theft of cat

My cat has been stolen by a neighbour. To make it worse the cat is due to give birth ( I now believe she has). I have reported it to the police as theft but they don't seem to bothered and said they would come round then didn't turn up and are now not sure when they can come.

I want my cat back.

Any ideas? Yes I have asked for it and she refuses point blank.

Hi All,

A Policeman finally came round at about half three - not because he was assigned the case but because he took a personal interest in it as a cat owner.
He spent about half hour with this woman who admitted she did not own the cat and agreed to give it back - but not till the kittens were old enough and wants to wait four weeks!
Then she had the ordasity to ask if she could have two of the kittens when they are old enough to go to a new home!!

Anyway I spoke to a vet and she said the cats are sfe to be moved once they are ten days old so we are going to get the policeman to go back to her with that and see if we can get them home sooner. I wouldn't put it past her to hide them before the 4 weeks is up!!

Oh, just so you know under the property law 1911 any domesicatedc animal, including cats and dogs are considered property of the owner therefore falling uner the Theft act 1986 by which it is a criminal offence to steal and animal and this should be treated as any other theft.

I agree with all the others! You say your local police say that cats are "feral" animals and therefore they can't do anything - that's total rubbish. If she were a very expensive pedigree cat, then the Theft Act would definately apply here, as she is your property!! That aside, she is STILL your property and you are within your rights to demand the police do something about it. The only reason she's still with this other person is that she's got her kittens and she won't leave them. Go and yell at the old bill again - I certainly would!!! glad you got somewhere Clippyjo, but its a bit sad that its only cos the PO is a cat lover. Start shouting and i spoke to the reporters here and they said its a story they would def cover so get onto your local rag, nothing like shaming someone into doing something. Keep us posted x

Its sad that it took a police officer who is an animal owner/lover to take any notice of you! Well at least you are getting somewhere now.

I wouldn't let her keep any of the kittens, especially after the way she has behaved.

Just waiting out the ten days till she's supposed to give them back. She's came round late last week being all budy, budy, saying that if we'dve wanted the cat back all we had to do was ask and then asking if she could have two and what we were doing with the other three (we have already got homes for all of the kittens otherwise we would have done out best not have let the cat get pregnant in the first place) - I'm sure she wanted to sell them all. She's also been trying to get us back to the four weeks but the vet is certain this is to long so her excuse of being less stressful and safer for the cats has more than worn thin. Hopefully we will get them back as promised.
If not we simply won't allow her to keep the two kittens as requested - like I said - we have other people who will have them if we decide not to let her keep two.

I had a naighbour like her just before I split with my ex. She reported me for the fact that my cat had a fight and had a swollen eye. Never mind that he had been to the vets for treatment. She just wanted him herself. I gave him to the cats protection legue for re-homing, on the promise that if she called they would not let her have him.
She was out the front when they came to take him. She had the nerve to ask for him in front of me and it made it a little easier in giving him up when I saw the look on her face when they said no she couldn't have him. She didn't get him and I heard some time later that she had tried to take the cat few doors down from us. It was a Burmese cat whos owners spent a lot of money on him having him chipped and registered with the cat club. He was a champion cat as well so when he went missing they traced him to this woman and she got a criminal record for it. I fell over laughing about it.

I just don't understand these people. There are so many abandoned cats out there who really need a loving home and yet this people want to take cats who are lucky enough to have that.
I wonder if they really want a cat because they want a cat or if they just want them because you have them??
