When I was there for five days in the summer of 2000, we went to Tivoli Gardens, walked in and around the royal palaces, saw the (very, very) Little Mermaid, took a boat trip, had a strange afternoon in the Free State of Christiana, and also travelled across the brand new Oresund Tunnel to Malmo in Sweden.
The city is very clean, and neither I, nor my girlfriend, had ever seen so many beautiful people!
Travelling from the airport into the city was also very easy, and it drops you off right in the city centre, beside Tivoli Gardens. Also, opposite the station is the huge tourist information office, who were very helpful in helping to organise a busy schedule for us. It's called 'Wonderful, Wonderful Copenhagen'......
Being a Dane myself I was very touched by what luckystrike said about my country and fellow countrymen/women.
He's right in everything he has suggested. In December Tivoli gardens are closed as a theme park but the have a christmas fair there everyday. The decorations are amazing and they have a lot of stalls too.
The best shopping area is Strget which is a pedestrian street with all the main shops. The Danish equivalent to Oxford Street. There are lots of little side streets to Strget which has excellent restaurants and quirky little shops.
Otherwise go by what Luckystrike said, couldn't have said it better myself.
