I am getting ready to send out my wedding invites and was going to put in a return envelope for the RSVP but have been told that people don't often bother sending them back and I'll have to chase for responses - so I wonder if it might be a better idea to ask people to RSVP to my e-mail account or tel number? Is that acceptable do you think?
I think it is terrible that people dont respond but that is definitely how it is. I think giving them as many options as possible is a good idea so pop your email address/telephone number on there too.
I've received a couple of wedding invitations recently, one just had an email addy to reply whereas the other had, phone numbers (including mobile), address and email addy, so yes I would think the more choices you give people the more likely you are to receive a response. Sad that people don't send written responses, but that seems to be how it is now.
I think a written invitatrion merits the courtesy of a written reply, but sadly, modern manners don;t reflect this.
I'd agree with the others - offer as many response media as possible, but allow for people who simply think they only have to reply if they are not attending - they turn up and find that you haven't catered for them!
