i also 'treat' them once a week with slices of weighted down cucumber or shelled cooked peas.
Also whenever I go to the aquarium, I treat them to live bloodworms or brine shrimp.

Daily.
With total respect hardy49, if you already have fish and you don't know how often to feed them, you should considder getting rid of them and doing a lot more research before you keep live animals.....
Can you imagine the response on here if you said "i've bought a new dog, how often should i feed it...daily or weekly or what ?"

Thank you for your opinions - in fact we have been keeping tropical fish for almost two years now and the reason I am asking is because a friend of a friend said that he feeds his weekly, and I just wanted to test some reactions.
Have to add that we have owned two very healthy cats for many years now as well.

I feed my fish daily with food specific to each type of feeder, algae, mid, bottom, etc. If I notice any left over food I skip a day & feed the following day instead. Live food or extras like greens I feed about two or three times a week.
When I go on holiday for a week to ten days I have my helper feed sparingly every other day so that the water does not get pollouted so quickly & need a water change while I am away. I have tried holiday feeder blocks but as I have to have cat & dog carers coming in daily anyway it seemed a waste.
