Petunias???

I planted some petunias in window boxes and most of them are flowering but some aren't. What I don't understand is why they (the flower) come to a head then just die before opening whilst others in the same plant flower beautifully, any ideas? Or is this just the way of them?

Should add that I know nothing about flowers so all advice welcome.

Thanks

often water either from rain or yourself sitting on the unopened flowers overnight will cause them to die off. The flowers are fairly soft and delicate and will rot easily in high humidity. They look like they have just gone flat and then will turn to mush.

That is the only reason I have come across.

Thanks Hawkwalk, that makes sense. So long as its nothing that I am doing wrong I am happy. We have had a few really heavy showers here in Scotland and the poor flowers took a real battering. Perhaps I will go for something a little more robust next year.

Many thanks
