my kitten suckling on brother

this might sound strange but i have two kittens (brother and sister) aged 12 weeks, the sister was the smallest from a litter of 5 and i have noticed that when she is tired she tries to suckle on her brothers bottom, she does try to suckle elsewhere but mainly his bottom is this normal and what should i do?

sounds like someone might be missing their mum, it will be a reassuring thing just a shame its her poor brothers wee botty. hopefully she'll grow out of it, her brother will get fed up of it too and will probably tell her where to go before long. maybe when she starts suckling you can pick her up and give her a hug. if you have a hot water bottle fill it and wrap it in a blanket so its not too hot for her,and if you have a clock that ticks put it near the hot water bottle and its like being back with mum, the h w b the warmth, the clock mums heartbeat.

My female cat used to carry round wet dish cloths or flannels and suck on them.

You could try giving her a warm damp flannel to suck on, it might feel like her mum.

just another thought, have you an old teddy bear that you could give to your wee missus to cuddle up to, maybe try and get her brothers scent on it by rubbing the bear gently against him, then she took suck teddy to her hearts content and have a friend to cuddle with. let us know how you get on..

Don't worry about it too much young kittens are quite unisex and she may need a little more TLC.She will soon realise that this is a no-no for food and will soon grow up a little.It is not I think worrying the other kitten , so don't let it worry you , it's just a phase .so ignore if you can, although I expect this is hard for you.Try not to read too much into the present situation.

thanks brenda ive been giving her lots of cuddles and she seems to have stopped it, although she has taken a liking to my ear now bless her! im sure it wont be long before she stops all together.
