This time around

In the soundtrack to the film "this time around" (was on sky movies 6 this afternoon) there is a song in the background that sounds a bit like Avril Lavigne or Michelle branch or similar. It contains a lyric in the chorus something like:

"why can't I be whoever I want to be - around you".

Can anyone help me with the artist and title?

IMDb was no help as this film has few details since it was made for TV. I also watched the credits and there was no score information on them. It was a recent film however, so I don't think the song will be too old.

It sounds to me like Liz Phair - Why can't I ........ the lyrics are "why can't i breath whenevr i think about you, why can't i speak whenever i talk about you" was out in america when i lived there two years ago, and i quite liked it too...
