Ever since my daughter tried-(unsuccessfully ) to to set up a wireless connection on Sat night-I have found it next to impossible to set up a broadband connection. I have been on the phone with Virgin half a dozen times-each time thinking it was sorted...I get a connection, but when I next turn on the laptop I am back to square one. I have disabled the wireless connection twice. I also get different messages referring to what the problem may be......includind" the modem may be experiancing driver or hardwear related issues-"...but this is not consistant. When I do get on-it seems to be by random accident-I am technically ignorant! ( I hope I can get on later to read any responses!! )

I suppose the first question is ... is it a modem or a router?
(up to 2Mb? package?)

if it's modem ... you don't get a wireless option.

So what kit exactly have you got connected?
how many PCs ... how did you connect before daughter set to? ... what's plugged into what

Yes, we need to know:

1. Is this Virgin cable, or Virgin ADSL

2. What router is it?

3. Can you connect via cable to modem?

4. Have you tried turning everything off at the plug and turning on in this EXACT order:
Modem.....wait at least one minute for the lights to settle down
Router...wait
Pc and laptop.

This simple thing can often solve broadband issues.

Hi ace.....I am on Virgin. with just 1 pc ....the modem is a Webstar by Scientific Atlantic-series EPC2100R2. The wireless we tried to set up is a Belkin G router.......the set up was fine until the router looked for an internet connection-this was only 70% complete-so daughter stopped installation. I have since un-installed it. Previous to this I have had weekly problems with "error 815" coming up and failed "dail-up " attempts-------the latter I have changed to "do not dial-up " on the advice of a Virgin advisor. Now-I may get connected after at least 1 hour of me blindly trying everything in "connections" etc...and I get there in the end.
