Bamboo hedge

Does anyone have experience of growing bamboo? I need a screen against a 6ft high fence. I need it to grow fast and to about 15ft. I am aware that the fastest growing types are "running" bamboo rather than "clumping" types, but that these can be very invasive. I know I can put in a concrete barrier but I am reading conflicting advice on how deep that should be. I also have varying advice on how hardy bamboo is... I live on the coast and we can have some very cold strong winds.

Am I making a big mistake by trying to do this?????

I don`t think bamboo is the answer, Leylandii will grow fast about 18in a year and as high as you want.
