A bus carrying 7 children to school. Every child has 7 backpacks. In each bag are 7 cats. Each cat has 7 kittens.
Fortunately, each has as many legs as Mother Nature planned .
Question: How many legs / paws are on the bus?

None, buses have wheels.
14 on the children
7 x 7 x 7 x 4 = 1372 on the cats
and 7 x 7 x 7 x 7 x 4 = 9604 on the kittens.

Making a total of 10,990 legs altogether, assuming it's not a trick question.
It is definitely a trick question. The version I heard is:

As I was going to St. Ives, I met a man with seven wives. Each wife had seven sacks, and in each sack was seven cats. Each cat had seven kits. Kits, cats, sacks and wives - how many were going to St. Ives?

This has been asked several times before. Asuming the phrase 'on the bus' means 'in the bus' , the information given points to an answer of 10990.

However it depends whether the bus is moving: assuming the bus isn't being driven by one of the children then we should add 2 more legs for the driver. So it could be 10992.

Of course there could be other answers. There may be other adults or pets on the bus too.

Newtron- I think the St Ives riddle was different- because the man going to St Ives met people who were going the other way.
none
the bus may have these people on but a bus has wheels
