Block Parties

Curiosity strikes....I am going to a block party later this afternoon. Is this an American thing or do people there have block parties too?

Hiya Eng...................I guess the nearest thing is a street party............but they tend to be outside in the street ........on special occasions :o)

A block or street in a neighborhood will get a permit from the town to close the street down for the day. Each family /house will contribute a set amount of money for the permit costs. They also hire a DJ, have a bounce house for the kids and various activities. Everyon puts their BBQ and tables in the front yard(garden) and just hangs out all day drinking/eating, etc. Loads of fun.

We have Street parties .Is that the same as your block ?
A party outside in the street for the neighbours etc .
They have them here for celebrations .Famous after the war ended and for Royal celebrations ,Queenies birthday etc .

Ah!! Same idea. We also have what we call Street Fairs which are held in a business district. Same idea but the merchants host activities in hopes of garnering you rbusiness later on. Fun time too. The Block Party is residential. My friend's block is hosting it. Whoever you invite you are responsible for feeding!
