mine have now spread into 2 plants since i bought them in the spring....is it best to split them up or leave them as they are

Leave your plants where they are at present, and in late Sept. /early Oct when the weather is cooler and the soil moist divide. This way they will have chance to grow by spring ready for flowering.

Primroses should be divided after flowering in spring as this is when they have finished doing their thing for the year. If divided in the autumn you risk the bud not setting and having no flowers for the following year.

Look to divide them every 2-3 years or when a large clump forms. If only 2 plants then they will be ok together for another year.

thanks for replies....i will leave them till they spreada bit more...do i just divide them using a garden spade straight through the middle or dig them up and pull them apart

Hello! You dig them up and then pull apart to divide.
Hawk walk has given you excellent advice, but should you need to divide in the Autumn , this will also work although the flowering clumps will not be as large as a spring division. I have done this a number of times with success,
