IPOD Shuffle

Evening All,

I am trying to charge my shuffle after a period of about three months non-usage and I have it connected to the computer but there is no light on the shuffle to say it's charging and there's been nothing on the computer to say it's connected to the shuffle. I've lost the box it came in (or rather it's packed somewhere and I don't know where) and this laptop has recently had some work done on it so ITUNES isn't on here anymore but that shouldn't stop it charging should it? Is it a problem with the IPOD or Charger?

I did go on to Apple support but it's not helped me much so I'd appreciate some advice.

Having I-Tunes installed shouldn't make a difference, I can charge mine on a pc without I-tunes.

Have you tried getting the pc to search for new hardware? it might be that you need the pc to recognise the new hardware ie the i-pod.

As you have no lights on the ipod it seems like it's either a problem with the i-pod or the charger lead.
You could try a different charger lead or maybe one of those plugs that charges the i-pod through the electric socket in your home. If that doesn't work then it will be your i-pod that's the problem.

I charge my MP4 via the electrical outlet and only when I jiggle the connection wire of the player to the outlet the light on the charger comes on. This tells me something is wrong with the charger. But it works.

Is it possible to charge you player from an electrical outlet?

when a battery is left for that length of time ... it discharges almost totally (which isn't good)

usb (esp a lappy) isn't ideal for charging batteries anyhow ... so kickstarting a battery could be a problem

apparently the best method is to use a powered usb hub
(better even than a mains usb charger)

Thank you all. I think it's knackered but I'm going to write to apple as this is the second IPOD I've had that has gone tits up within about six months.

Given that the battery will be flat or next-to-flat, it'll take 30mins or so before any life is seen, probably.

Just leave it charging. Give it 8 hours or so, and see if you have any luck.

If you're not going to be using rechargeable batteries (such as in iPod shuffle) for a few months, it's best to have the batteries about 80% full before storage.
