As concerned Grand-parents my wife and i are worried about our grand-daughter who has lived with us since she was 6 months old and has now gone off to Uni. She has always had us to remind her to do things, one of these being to take her pill but recently she has occasionally been forgetting and although she takes other precautions with her boyfriend (condom) we were thinking about suggesting to her about either an Injection or an Implant, could any girls out there tell us which is better and what it entails Thanks in Advance (Sensible Answers Only Please)
hi every woman is different. i had the injection for 2 years it made me put on lots of eight and i was realy un happy on it. i have just had the coil fitted which so far has given me no side effects. it can be in for up to 5 years but you can have it taken out when you want.
with the injection she will go to her surgery or clinic every 12 weeks for an injection.
i know 2 people who had the implant and have said that it made there arm very weak-not sure how true that is though.
i think maybe you could take her to a family planning clinic who will go through all her options and decide what is best for her
Yes like ethanryan says best thing is too go to family planning clinic to discuss best option for her. Some people are better on one thing while others are suited to something else.
I myself have got the implant at the moment. Think its 2/3 years it stays in your arm for before you have it taken out. I know a girl who had the implant and it made her put on weight. I think I have put on a stone since having it fitted but don't know if down to the implant or not. The only other side affect I got was my moods were very erratic but only for a day or two then settled down.
Only takes a couple of minutes for nurse to put in arm, pretty painless and overall would rate 8/10. Can't tell its there and don't have to worry about remembering to take the pill.
I had the pill and it turned me into a physco, made me a really nasty person! Am now on the injection and its great, no weight gain, no moods, nothing, its great, would recommend to all!
I have being using the implant for 4 yrs now and found it fab. I had no periods hardly and it doesn't make your arm weak!! I've only taken it out now to try for 2nd baby then I'll be having it put in again
agree your granddaughter and her partner should talk to a famuly planning clinic. The other aspect is now your grandaughter has gone to uni she is going to have to learn to take more responsibility for her own life. Yee have dedicated your life to raising her its now time for yee to focus on your own relationship together without worrying as much about her
Hi, I am currently on the injection. I was on it for just over 2 years but had a break as I didn't have any period's whilst on it. After a 8 months break I went back on it. I think its great, no weight gain or mood swings. I suffered from terrible stomach and back pain and when I'm on the injection I don't get any pain.
My friend had the implant and had no problems with it.
you have a local anaesthetic so you don't feel it at the time. The 1st time I had it taken out I had to go to work straight after (I work in a babyroom lifting heavy babies!) I didn't realise you had to take it easy and by the end of the day my arm had ballooned!! They put steristrips on it and wrap the arm tightly in a bandage and you aren't supposed to lift things straight after! The 2nd time wasn't so bad and although it did swell it was only painful for 1 night. It just feels really achy and tender but not horrendous like giving birth!! It can't be that bad because I would definitely have it done again!
