When my daughter was at college she had a weekend job with some extra hours in the holidays. She is now working full time in another job Mon - Fri paying tax and national insurance but still has the weekend job. As the w/end job is now her second job should she be paying tax an N/I on it? The company have not been stopping tax etc. Thank you SMP
No she hasn't, her manager at her second job told her that they would sort it out. Should her tax code for the second job be BR? As Isaid she is paying tax and N/I on her main job (tax code 543L).
As she is paying tax on her full time job, and using her tax allowance there, she should be paying tax on all her income from the weekend job.
Her tax code for the part time job should be BR - which simply means it is all to be taxed at basic rate, unless she pays income tax at the higher rate, in which case the code should be DO.
Thank you jedimisstress and Ethel. She will be contacting the Tax Office tomorrow. From her payslips it appears both jobs are using the same tax code. She was told by second employer that they would sort it out when she started full time job but obviously they haven't. As it appears she owes tax for last 4-5 months on second job, will she have to pay the tax owing in a lump sum or can it be deducted from wages?
Thanks
