Lexmark Cartridges

I have just bought a Lexmark printer and the first cartridges have run out, or rather Lexmark tell me they have run out and have stopped printing. They admit that there is still some ink in them, but refuse to let me use it. I have bought new ones, but I don't see why I should be forced to buy new cartridges when the old ones still have ink in them. Is there anyway I can bypass Lexmark and use the cartridges until they are empty?

I presume they have an electronic chip in them. The reason for the ink left is to stop your printhead from drying out.

For Epson printers you can get a small gadget that resets the chip to 'full' and lets you use all the ink. I presume you would be able to get one the same for Lexmark. Have a look on Ebay.

NOTE: To have a replacement cartridge ready when the ink runs out. A blocked printhead is difficult to clear properly.
