I returned from a year travelling back in June this year and have been looking for work since but to no avial. However, whilst travelling I decided I would like to change my career to something a bit more worthwhile like a charity fundraiser. The thing is I have a background in finance and have only experience of fundraising/organising in my spare time. I have applied for many roles and knowing I would have to start at the bottom again they have been admin roles in the not-for-profit sector. But it seems no one is giving me a chance and I am starting to wonder if I ever will. I am even willing, although slightly reluctant, to work back in a finance/accounts role in the not-for-profit sector just to get my foot in the door but it seems I'm not even being given a chance doing that. I am at the end of my tether! Can you offer any advice please as to what I should do and how to go about getting a job? Thanks!

If you are under 25 I'd suggest you make an appointment with a Connexions Adviser (they're ususally based at your local Job Centre). Their advice is invaluable.
Good luck.

I am 25 soon to be 26 and went to the Jobcentre on Monday to get Job Seekers Allowance but they were no help as they just suggested roles I've already done which is what I'm trying to get out of.
