Why not puree them and freeze the juice,or you could make ice cream or add to yoghurt etc. Lakeland limited did a little strawberry-on-a-stick-freezing set last summer. Basically you stuck a little plastic skewer thing in your juicy ripe strawberry and froze it. BUT you don't defrost them - you suck on them like a lolly - delicious!
Why do you buy them if you know they go off so soon?
You could buy a smaller punnet, or buy them from a different store, or have a good look at them before you buy them and make sure there are some with green at the stalk end so they are still a bit unripe and should last longer, make sure they are firm when you buy them.
A greengrocer told me never to wash soft fruit if you're going to store it in the fridge. It absorbs the water while washing and then rots, even in the fridge. This is particularly true for strawberries, raspberries and cherries.
Best thing to do with strawberries is eat them on the day you buy them (unless you buy them in M&S - their fruit lasts for ages!).
