Brazil's government, just this Wednesday approved a plan by Brazil's two largest airlines, Varig and TAM, to end a code-sharing agreement they started two years ago at the height of a crisis in the country's passenger aviation industry.
The agreement between Viacao Aerea Riograndense SA and TAM Linhas Aereas SA will be dissolved within three months, said the Justice Ministry's antitrust division. Varig and TAM began the code-sharing agreement in March 2003 as the precursor to a full merger.
