I have a crossbreed dog who is relatively good - when I take him to the park he absolutely loves all dogs and makes the first move to them for them to play with him. However yesterday my friend called to my house with her new dog and my dog went frantic. Somebody has told me that her dog was encroaching on his patch.
I was annoyed at this happening cos it is my house and not the dogs. Anybody advise me what to do next time.
Try going to meet your friend on the corner of your rd with your dog on a lead, when you get to your house let both dogs off their leads and go into your house , hopefully thatl work , he is just protecting "his " territory i think
I agree with patriciah. Your dog is being protective of her own space and I wouden't be suprised if you said that she growled or snapped when the visiting dog went near her toys.
The best solution b4 letting any other new dog visits to your home is to meet them first on the local park to introduce themselves and play. It is best to let them get to know each other first and play with toys on mutual ground. It then, should be okay to bring them into your home. It worked for me, hope it does for you. try it.
All the best.
I agree with patricia h. Try to meet strange dogs on mutual territory first. Let them play together, perhaps on the local park.
It should them be okay to bring them into your home.
It worked for me.
